Hair smoothening is one of the hottest hair trends to come on the scene in years, but it can be tricky to figure out just how to pull off this look, especially if you aren’t used to paying much attention to your hair. The secret? These tips and tricks on how to get the perfectly smoothed hair look will help you overcome your fear of smoothing products and leave you looking like you just stepped out of the salon.

What is Hair Smoothening
Hair smoothening is a process that uses chemicals to temporarily remove frizz, dryness, and fly-aways from hair. The end result is sleek, shiny hair that looks polished and healthy. While there are many at-home hair care products that claim to smooth hair, the best results come from salon treatments.

If you’re looking to get your hair smoothed, here are a few tips to keep in mind.
Avoid applying too much heat to your hair. In general, when we use heat styling tools such as blow dryers or curling irons on our hair, we risk creating more frizz than if we had left it alone.
Additionally, avoid any other form of heat such as going outside without putting on sunscreen or touching up your makeup with a hot iron.

Types of Hair Smoothening
On the whole, there are two major types of hair smoothening treatments

Ayurvedic Or Natural Smoothening
Ayurvedic herbs and natural ingredients are used to gradually improve your hair’s structure and achieve a smooth and shiny appearance. In addition to providing hair smoothening, these methods also provide holistic hair health by healing various scalp and hair-related issues.
The effects of such treatments will not be immediately evident but are more efficient in the long-term without unwanted side effects.

Chemical Smoothening
Some of these treatments can involve hair damaging chemicals like alkalines, formaldehyde, etc. Some treatments provide instant smoothness to your hair, lasting from 3-12 months depending on your post-treatment hair care regimen.
It’s true that chemical smoothening treatments come with their own set of side effects like weakened hair follicles, but chemical smoothening is known to make hair much smoother.
Let’s examine some of the most effective Ayurvedic hair smoothening treatments before we discuss how to provide your hair with a smooth texture and a shiny appearance.

Smoothing Your Hair Naturally With Ayurveda
Hot Oil Treatment

There are many Ayurvedic practices that smooth your hair texture, including hot oil treatments with herbs that work on Udaka Vaha Srotas.

Various herbal substances used for Udaka Vaha Srotas include:
Ashwagandha, also known as Withania Somnifera, may have psychoactive and anti-stress effects.
Fiddlecreeks (Eclipta Prostrata)
Brahmi, or Bacopa Monnieri, is an ancient herb.
It is named Daruharidra (Berberis Aristata) in the Berber language.
The most common description for Dudhi is that it resembles green modeling clay.
Withania somnifera, and Safed Musli (pearl or Safed Musli)
Called Gulab-Pushpa (rose-petals) in Hindi, it was also once used to depict death.
Indian honeysuckle (Hedychium spicatum)
The kumari or Aloe Vera.

Procedure:
1. Heat the oil until it is warm.
2. Apply the oil generously to your scalp.
3. Massage your scalp for about 15-20 minutes in circular motions.
4. Now, apply some oil to the hair shaft and thoroughly massage it in.
5. After 20-30 minutes, soak a thick, wet towel in hot water and wring it out before wrapping it around your head and hair. Ensure that you tighten the towel enough so that it isn’t slipping around on your head, but not so tight that it squeezes the blood out of your head. Maximizing absorption of oil into the cuticle layers will enhance this condition.
6. After 20 minutes, rinse your hair with an Ayurvedic shampoo.

Hair Rinse With Smoothening Herbs
Removing dryness from your hair is the first step to achieving that smooth, sleek look. And what better way to do it than with a hair rinse made from smoothing herbs?

Chamomile and lavender are both great for soothing the scalp and removing excess oil, while rosemary can help stimulate hair growth. To make your rinse, simply steep the herbs in boiling water for 15 minutes, then strain and use as a final rinse after shampooing and conditioning. You’ll notice a difference in your hair’s texture immediately! And because these ingredients are so gentle on the hair, you won’t have to worry about any unwanted build-up or drying out of your locks.
