How it Started?

Being born and raised in Hong Kong, Ben Perkins grew accustomed to high humidity. As a result, he often wore a white dress shirt on his many occasions as a young adult. If he wasn’t wearing a dress shirt, he was sporting athletic wear. On one particularly sweaty, hot day, he wondered Why can’t I make dress shirts out of athletic wear? and he began pursuing the idea for &Collar. Every year, other than in 2008 and as a 13-year-old, the brand has been called Wick-a-Sweat. A few years ago after returning to the United States after living in the Philippines for two very hot years, Ben made a firm decision to go ahead with the venture. He sought out the best team of marketers he knew his sister Lizzy and his advertising friends: Timmy Bates, David Shum, and Jordan Larsen. In the wake of sharing a loaf of bread with each other, the company &Collar was founded in August 2017. From the first meeting in a living room to operating out of several garages, we have always wanted to produce clothing that will both keep you cool and keep costs low.

What is used in making?

Plastic bottles are one of the most recycled items in the world. They can be recycled into many different things, like shoes or furniture. But did you know that they can also be melted down to make a new type of fabric? This new type is called polyester. It’s a synthetic fiber, so it never needs to be ironed. And because it’s made from plastic bottles, it has an incredible ability to resist stains and wrinkles! Steps used in making it are – cutting off the tops of plastic bottles, melting them down, stretching them out into long strands, then weaving those strands together to create a sheet of fabric. The end result: clothes that stay looking fresh all day long!

Will it really work?

It’s no secret that dry cleaning is expensive, but it may be worth the investment. Dressing for success is as much about how you look as it is about what you know. If your clothes are clean, wrinkle free, and don’t attract any stains, you will be more confident in your presentation. You may find yourself making a better impression on a client or a date! There are many stain repellent and wrinkle-free garments on the market today. Just ask &collar which shirts to select to keep you looking great without all the effort.
